About Us

Connecting Souls With Dance

We believe that dance is essential to a healthy society, demonstrating the infinite possibilities for human expression and potential, and facilitating communication within and across cultures. The House of LUDE as well as Brown Sugar are two of our signature groups spreading the love of multiculturalism, diversity dance and unity since 2002.

Hamden Academy of Dance and Music is fully devoted to providing dancers of all ages an encouraging environment where they are given the opportunity to grow and excel in their dance education. We strive to deliver the highest quality of dance training, while nurturing each student’s unique gift of talent and creativity. We wish to encourage our students to achieve their fullest potential – to support them as they grow artistically and academically, and develop into well-rounded individuals – nourished in body, mind and spirit. What Say Dancers

5/5
When I was 15 years old, Lia Hamilton Davila hired me as one of her original tap teachers. I was a sophomore in HS. I'd continue teaching, on the weekends, while I studied at Hartt until my senior year. Before I knew I could be a writer or actor, Lia gave me the space to dream. One year she even let me choreograph "The Circle of Life" as an opener. I had folks sliding across the floor like snakes, okay? The vision was real. HADM was a huge foundation for what my creative brain would become. Another dancing school, who'll go unnamed, did the opposite for me. Crushed me, made me feel overlooked and unworthy, but Lia saw something in me and invested in my possibilities, early. I'm forever grateful for that creative push. 20 years later, I now realize that the exploration I was granted within HADM'S walls watered my garden. Made me bold. Made me a dreamer that would one day become a Broadway actor and writer. We must never forget our beginnings, our teachers and waterers. Lia, you have a big spout. Thank YOU for watering me. You've kicked started many a dream, I'm a living witness. Congrats to your first 20 and the 20 years to come. I'm honored to be a small part of your legacy.
